How It Works

It’s easy to create a free account on OfferUp and list the items you want to sell. Just take a picture or several with your phone or tablet camera, fill some forms, and publish your offer. Then, when someone gets interested in it and writes to you, the app will notify you of that.

Right in the app you can make or receive payments, so cash is not necessary at all. But if you prefer money, you can put inside your pocket, you can make a partly payment cashless and hand the rest as you meet directly.

For buyers, the app is a great catalog of used or sometimes unused items to buy and deal about. If you do a lot of selling, you may buy a Pro account for $19.95/mo and keep your items up, so they show first as someone makes a request.

When it comes to online marketplaces, popularity is the key. And OfferUp is doing alright, attracting millions of users.

On Privacy and Security

This OfferUp review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning its reputation system. If the seller has sold lots of bad or overpriced things, their reputation will inevitably go down with negative reviews. The honest sellers will get high marks and keep their reputation high too.

Buyers can reserve the item with pre-payment, keeping it on hold for some time until they physically reach the seller. The escrow system prevents fraud and doesn’t let the sellers change their minds once they have promised a deal.

Pros

♥ Easy to list an item if you sell;

♥ Easy to search for an item if you buy;

♥ Security and reputation features;

♥ The service attracts lots of sellers and buyers.

Cons

♥ Customer support is reported to be poor;

♥ Escrow feature confuses some sellers;

♥ The items may turn out to be worse than on pictures.

The App that Saves

If you have something to sell or search for a particular used thing to buy, download OfferUp before you go out searching. It will take a minute, but may save you much more time, money, and efforts.
